Job Description

Job Title : Data Center L2 Support Engineer

Location : Utah, USA (Hybrid: 50% Remote / 50% Onsite across multiple sites)

Department : IT Infrastructure / Data Center Operations

Reports To : Data Center Manager / IT Infrastructure Lead

Employment Type : 1099 Independent Contractor – 1-Year Contract

Travel Reimbursement : Mileage/travel charges will be reimbursed if work location is beyond a 40-mile radius from the engineer’s home base.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor, support, and maintain critical data center infrastructure using industry-standard tools.
  • Respond to and resolve Level 2 incidents, including hardware failures, networking issues, OS-level problems, and escalated service tickets.
  • Travel to various data center facilities across Utah for on-site troubleshooting, equipment installation, and maintenance.
  • Perform server deployments, patch management, and upgrades for Windows and Linux environments.
  • Maintain cabling, racking, power systems, and physical infrastructure.
  • Coordinate with L1 support, L3 engineers, and vendors as needed for escalations.
  • Maintain accurate records of system configurations, incidents, and hardware assets.
  • Adhere to ITIL-aligned procedures for change, incident, and problem management.
  • Participate in a rotational 24x7 on-call schedule.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in data center or IT infrastructure support roles.
  • Strong understanding of server hardware platforms (Dell, HPE, Cisco UCS).
  • Solid grasp of basic networking concepts (IP, VLANs, DNS, DHCP).
  • Experience with both Windows Server and Linux (RHEL/Ubuntu/CentOS) .
  • Familiarity with virtualization platforms such as VMware or Hyper-V .
  • Hands-on experience with monitoring tools (SolarWinds, DCIM, Zabbix).
  • Able to work independently and manage tasks across multiple sites.
  • Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license required for travel.
  • Ability to lift and handle physical infrastructure equipment as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Industry certifications (CompTIA Server+, CCNA, MCSA, VMware VCP).
  • Experience with scripting and automation (PowerShell, Bash, Python).
  • Knowledge of cloud environments (AWS, Azure).
  • Familiarity with ITSM platforms like ServiceNow, BMC Remedy.
