Job Description

The Opportunity

A Fortune 500 telecommunications company in Chandler, AZ seeks an External Affairs Manager on a long-term, temporary basis for at least twelve months, possibly longer. The schedule is hybrid, though the days in office may change from week to week. The hourly rate is up to $60 an hour, plus benefits.

Primary Duties

The External Affairs Manager will lead the company's external engagement strategy, focusing heavily on government relations and regulatory affairs. The role involves building and maintaining relationships with government officials, industry groups, and community stakeholders to support company goals and enhance its public image. This position is ideal for a seasoned government relations professional with strong communication and strategy skills, comfortable navigating complex regulatory environments.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute local/state external affairs strategies aligned with national priorities
  • Act as a company representative with government bodies and community organizations
  • Oversee local/state lobbyists and monitor policy developments
  • Advise executives on regulatory changes and external opportunities/challenges
  • Support brand reputation through community engagement and media presence
  • Collaborate with internal teams to align messaging and strategy

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
  • 8+ years of experience in external/government affairs or similar fields
  • Experience in telecom or related industry preferred
  • Telecom is nice to have, but not required
  • Basic MS Office Suite experience
  • Project Management experience a huge plus
  • Leadership and stakeholder relationship management
