Job Description

Payroll Specialist – Contract Assignment

Location: On-site in Ann Arbor, MI

Duration: 12–16 months

A dynamic organization in the Ann Arbor area is seeking an experienced Payroll Specialist for a contract opportunity. This role is perfect for detail-oriented professionals passionate about accuracy, compliance, and customer service within payroll operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accurately process bi-weekly payroll and ensure timely handling of reimbursements, retroactive payments, benefit adjustments, and garnishments
  • Perform regular audits of personnel and payroll data, correcting discrepancies and maintaining accurate records
  • Manage retirement and loan deductions and updates, including 403(b) contributions
  • Ensure compliance with legal requirements related to garnishments and pension corrections
  • Conduct PTO and goal audits in the payroll system to maintain data integrity
  • Collaborate with external payroll vendors to resolve issues and process requests
  • Provide reporting and support for internal stakeholders including HR, finance, and department managers
  • Offer guidance on Time and Attendance systems and respond to payroll inquiries with a focus on outstanding service

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in Accounting or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 3 years of payroll experience with mid-size companies; healthcare industry knowledge a strong plus
  • Prior experience in ADP payroll software is required
  • Strong Excel experience
  • Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and communication abilities
