Job Description

Purchasing Manager

A fast-growing manufacturer and distributor serving multiple industrial and educational sectors is seeking an experienced Purchasing Manager to lead strategic sourcing and procurement operations. This position plays a critical role in securing the goods and materials necessary to support efficient and cost-effective production across a diverse product portfolio.

The ideal candidate will thrive in a global procurement environment, demonstrate strong leadership capabilities, and bring a proactive, analytical approach to purchasing strategy and supplier management.

This role reports directly to the Director of Procurement and Supply Chain Management and oversees a dedicated team of purchasing professionals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement effective sourcing strategies that emphasize cost-efficiency, reliability, and ethical vendor relationships.
  • Oversee procurement activities to ensure the timely and accurate sourcing of materials in line with pricing, quantity, quality, and delivery requirements.
  • Conduct vendor evaluations and monitor purchasing trends to optimize forecasting accuracy and reduce costs.
  • Evaluate supplier performance based on quality, pricing, lead times, and overall service.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional departments including finance, logistics, and operations to align procurement efforts with broader business goals.
  • Utilize Lean, Kanban, or similar methodologies to enhance efficiency and meet performance benchmarks for cost, quality, and delivery.
  • Lead and develop the purchasing team, assigning daily responsibilities, providing coaching, and ensuring achievement of departmental objectives.
  • Negotiate effectively with suppliers and analyze purchasing data to manage risk and ensure cost control.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, supply chain management, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3–5 years of experience in purchasing, procurement, or supply chain roles.
  • Experience working with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite).
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and leadership skills.
  • Analytical mindset with problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience in contract management and supplier relationship management.
  • Professional certifications such as CPM, CPSM, or APICS are a plus.
